Different reports list slightly different end dates for the UGC NET December 2026 exam window because NTA revised its calendar in October. Your exact date, shift and centre will be shown only on your city slip and admit card, so treat those as final.

Correction Window: What You Can Change

If you made a mistake in the form, use the correction window. Typically you can edit fields such as your name spelling, parents’ names, date of birth, category, subject and exam city choices, and upload a clearer photo or signature. Some fields like email ID and mobile number usually cannot be changed. If the correction changes your category to one with a higher fee, you will need to pay the difference.

  • Log in to the UGC NET December 2026 portal with your application number and password.
  • Open the correction link, make changes carefully and submit.
  • Download the updated confirmation page.

Do not wait for the last day. The server slows down near the deadline, and changes cannot be made after the window closes.

Eligibility in Brief

  • Qualification: Master’s degree or equivalent with at least 55% marks (50% for OBC-NCL, SC, ST, PwD and third gender). Final-year PG students can also apply.
  • Four-year UG: Candidates with a four-year undergraduate degree and at least 75% marks (or equivalent) can apply, as per recent UGC norms, subject to conditions.
  • Age for JRF: Generally not more than 30 years, with relaxations for reserved categories, women and some other groups.
  • Assistant Professor and PhD: No upper age limit.

Three Outcomes of UGC NET

Since recent reforms, the UGC NET December 2026 result can place you in one of three categories:

  1. JRF and Assistant Professor and PhD admission
  2. Assistant Professor and PhD admission (without JRF)
  3. PhD admission only

Universities use NET scores for PhD admissions, and for categories 2 and 3 the score may be combined with an interview under university rules.

Qualifying Marks

To be considered, candidates usually need to score at least 40% aggregate in both papers combined for General category, and 35% for reserved categories. Meeting this minimum does not guarantee qualification. NTA then applies category-wise and subject-wise cut-offs to decide who qualifies for JRF, Assistant Professor and PhD-only categories.

6-Week Revision Plan for UGC NET December 2026

With about six weeks left before UGC NET December 2026, a structured plan matters more than long, random study hours. Here is a simple plan that works for most working and full-time candidates.

WeekPaper I focusPaper II focus
Week 1Teaching aptitude, research aptitudeRevise units 1 and 2 of your subject
Week 2Comprehension, communicationUnits 3 and 4
Week 3Mathematical and logical reasoningUnits 5 and 6
Week 4Data interpretation, ICTUnits 7 and 8
Week 5People and environment, higher education systemUnits 9 and 10
Week 6Full mock tests and revision of weak areasFull mock tests and quick revision notes

Take at least one full-length mock test every weekend from week 2. Because UGC NET December 2026 is a single three-hour session, practise doing both papers together without a break.

Paper I: How to Score High

Paper I is common for all subjects, and many candidates lose JRF by a few marks here. Treat it seriously.

  • Teaching aptitude and research aptitude carry many conceptual questions. Learn the levels of teaching, learner characteristics, evaluation systems, types of research, research ethics and steps of research.
  • Reasoning and data interpretation are scoring if you practise. Solve 20 to 30 questions daily.
  • Higher education system questions cover institutions, policies and value education. Revise the National Education Policy 2020 basics and regulatory bodies.
  • People, development and environment questions often cover climate agreements, pollution and natural hazards.

Paper II: Subject Strategy

Paper II for UGC NET December 2026 follows the UGC syllabus, which has ten units for most subjects. Avoid the trap of reading only one big book. Instead:

  1. Download the official syllabus for your subject and tick off each topic as you revise.
  2. Solve the last five years of previous papers. Many concepts and question styles repeat.
  3. Make one-page summaries for every unit, especially for thinkers, theories, dates and definitions.
  4. For literature, history and social sciences, focus on chronology and match-the-following type questions.
  5. For commerce, economics and sciences, practise numerical and application questions.

Exam Day Checklist

  • Printed admit card with the undertaking filled in and photo pasted as instructed
  • Original valid photo ID (Aadhaar, passport, PAN, voter ID or driving licence)
  • One passport-size photo for the attendance sheet
  • PwD certificate, if claiming relaxation or a scribe
  • Transparent water bottle and simple ballpoint pen (if allowed)

Reach the centre well before the reporting time. Biometric verification and frisking take time. Electronic devices, watches, wallets and jewellery are generally not allowed inside. Follow the instructions printed on your UGC NET December 2026 admit card exactly.

After the Exam: Answer Key and Result

NTA releases a provisional answer key along with candidates’ recorded responses a few weeks after the exam. You can challenge answers online by paying a fee per question. After reviewing challenges, NTA prepares the final answer key and declares the result with cut-offs for each subject and category. In past cycles, December results have come out around January or February, but timing can vary.

Qualified candidates can download their e-certificate and, for JRF, the award letter from the NTA portal. The JRF award is valid for a fixed period from the date of the result, so plan PhD admission accordingly.

UGC NET December 2026 vs Kerala SET

Many Kerala candidates write both exams. Here is how they differ:

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Ignoring Paper I: Many strong subject candidates miss JRF because of a weak Paper I score.
  • Not practising on a computer: UGC NET December 2026 is a CBT. Practise mock tests on screen, not just on paper.
  • Leaving questions blank: There is no negative marking, so attempt every question.
  • Last-minute travel: Check the city slip early and plan travel and stay, especially if your centre is in another district.
  • Not checking the admit card: Errors in name, photo or subject must be reported to NTA immediately.

Subject-Wise Tips for Popular Kerala Subjects

English

Focus on literary periods, major authors and works, literary criticism and theory, and Indian writing in English. Match-the-following and chronology questions are common. Make timeline charts for each age, from Old English to postcolonial writing.

Commerce

Revise accounting standards, financial management formulas, business environment, marketing concepts, income tax basics and international business. Practise numerical questions daily, because UGC NET December 2026 Commerce papers usually include calculation-based questions.

Malayalam

Cover the history of Malayalam literature, grammar (Kerala Panineeyam concepts), major poets and novelists, literary movements, folklore and criticism. Previous papers are the best guide to the pattern of questions.

Education

Revise educational philosophy, psychology, sociology, research methods, statistics, teacher education and policies. There is a strong overlap with Paper I, which helps.

Management and Economics

Management candidates should focus on organisational behaviour, HRM, marketing, finance and strategy. Economics candidates should revise micro and macro theory, growth models, Indian economy, international trade and econometrics basics.

A Plan for Working Candidates

Many UGC NET December 2026 aspirants are guest lecturers, school teachers or office workers. If you have limited time, use this daily routine:

  • Morning (45 minutes): One Paper I topic with 20 practice questions.
  • Evening (90 minutes): One Paper II sub-unit with notes and previous questions.
  • Weekend: One full mock test for UGC NET December 2026 and two hours of analysis.

Consistency over six weeks matters more than marathon sessions just before the exam.

Mock Test Strategy

Mock tests are the closest thing to the real UGC NET December 2026 experience. Use them to build speed and to find weak areas.

  1. Attempt the full 150 questions in 180 minutes, in one sitting.
  2. Note how long you spend on Paper I and Paper II. Many toppers finish Paper I in about 50 to 60 minutes.
  3. After each mock, list every wrong answer and the reason: concept gap, careless reading or guessing.
  4. Revise those topics before the next mock.

By the third or fourth mock, most candidates see a clear improvement in both score and confidence for UGC NET December 2026.

Health and Mindset

December exams come with colder mornings in some cities and holiday distractions everywhere. Sleep at fixed times, eat simple food and avoid long late-night study sessions in the final week. On the day before the exam, revise only your short notes and keep your documents ready.

What to Do If Your Exam Date Clashes

NTA does not usually change dates for individual candidates, but it does review genuine clashes when they affect many students, and it has a grievance mechanism on its website. If you face a clash, contact NTA through the official helpline or email as soon as you see your city slip, with proof of the other exam. Do not wait until the admit card is released.

Using Your NET Score After the Result

Qualifying is only the start. After the result:

  • JRF holders should look for PhD admissions and supervisors early, because the fellowship has a validity window.
  • Assistant Professor qualified candidates can apply for college teaching posts. In Kerala, aided and government college appointments follow university and government rules, often with interviews.
  • PhD-only qualified candidates can use their scores for PhD admission in universities that follow the new UGC system.

Keep your e-certificate, score card and application details safe. Universities and recruiting bodies ask for them during verification.

Helpline and Official Support

For problems with the application, correction, city slip or admit card, use only the official NTA helpline numbers and email listed on the UGC NET website. Avoid paying agents who claim they can change centres or results. Official support is free.
